Today has been an excellent training session with Rodney King, today we worked some fundamentals in regard to sparring, such as emotional response and emotional reaction. It is clear when you spar with Rodney that the process is multidimensional, full of complexities such as psychological and physiological response mechanisms. Often we get too tied up with the physicality and fail to recognise the psychology behind what we do and how we do it.
There is something magical when it all comes together, it becomes more than just a process. You start to recognise that your performance goes much deeper than the physicality. Aspects of your personality and how you handle situations can transpose itself into your sparring, and its important to understand this and know how to recognise and subsequently deal with it.
Physiologically we process information at high speeds based upon the stimulus we receive from the external world. It is therefore to be expected that when we perform a complex task such sparring, that external factors may affect sparring performance, so it important to understand the deeper levels of sparring and how it relates to performance.
Today has been the first session of the week with Rodney and not only have i realised some important factors in regard to my sparring performance, but more importantly, i have realised much more about who i am as individual. This is what makes the CMD program truly unique, and i cant wait until tomorrow for my next session with Rodney.
